From Hamburg, PA featuring previous members of Suns of IvyThe Fallen Troubadours jangling good time sound has been described as a “Byrd lovers, 60’s garage rock party that burst in present day Brooklyn”. On a regular basis the band hosts a sold out bus trip to destination gigs in Philly and New York carting dedicated followers. Artist Profile: Ike Wilder

To most fans Ike Wilder is known as the front man for The Wilders from Kansas City, MS. Over the past 13 years the band has toured professionally planting their folk & country music roots throughout the Midwest, Northwest and Europe gaining much respect and attention from adoring, enthusiastic fans.

In 2006, Ike & his wife Carrie moved to Berks County where Carrie took a job as a professor in the Art education wing at Kutztown University.

In an effort to find like-minded friends, not to dissimilar to their KC posy of bohemian music community enthusiasts endearingly referred to as ‘The Rural Grit’, Carrie began to Google local Berks County bands. Her research uncovered several that sparked an interest including The Manatawny Creek Ramblers, Frog Holler and Society Beat. Upon further discovery she noticed a common thread in Daniel Bower. Without hesitation she set her husband and Daniel up on a ‘blind buddy date’ or “blind bromance” as Bower puts it. “With our wide spanned enthusiasm for bands ranging from Bill Monroe to Snoop Dog, we we’re instant bros. We decided to get together on Friday afternoons when The Wilders weren’t touring to listen to records, share tour stories, pick guitars, go for convertible rides, and maybe drink some beer. It’s been a few years, suddenly, and we know all these songs and have a bunch of stories. They sound good, so, why not play ‘em out!?” Bower reasons. “It’s such a treat to have a real pro, someone of whom I’d otherwise just be a fan, as a best bud. Getting to play together is the cherry on top.”

Artist Profile:

Matthew O’neil

Matthew O'Neill is currently touring solo in support of his new album entitled 'The Harbor's Delight' and a compilation called 'Otorongo Mix'. Journeying from the mountain town of Topanga, California, he has worked his way East with an impressive array of solo performances. 'The Harbor's Delight' carves vibrant new shapes and expressions out of mountain music, high songwriting style, and multi-latitudinal grooves. The album was recorded in the Catskill Mountains and finished at his solar powered, water collecting shack in Topanga.

Mr. O'Neill has performed as a solo artist for years while traveling and taking root in various mountainous regions. He is somewhat hermetic by nature but has managed to assemble and dismantle several groups over time, and there is beautiful evidence of these ensembles on previous recordings. Matthew is recognized foremost as an original artist whose primary mode of expression invokes exceptional songwriting, a uniquely expressive guitar style, and a knack for inspired performance.

Freddie & Michele are a voice and guitar duo, based in the budding metropolis of Sanatoga, PA, approximately 35 miles west of Philadelphia. Featured are the vocals of Michele Kienle and the guitar of Fred Will. Currently the pair perform stylized cover versions of contemporary and classic rock, pop, and blues songs. They are also in the process of writing and producing their first album of original music.

The singer/songwriter has notched up several hundred shows in the past two years, which includes two trips to Canadian Music Week to perform supporting slots for acts like Jimmy Barnes & The Black Crowes. He’s also been to international festivals SXSW and CMJ. Following an Australian tour to support the release of Signals, an album produced by Tim Powles (drummer and producer for The Church), Travis heads to the US for a series of shows including a stop in Boyertown.

Daniel Bower (you might remember him from the Manatawny Creek Ramblers) whom owns and operates Moonlight Forest Productions will be taking over the booking for our live music calendar. He is committed to bringing quality entertainment for our growing audience of live music lovers. As we’ll continue to feature the best on the local original music scene, Daniel will help us bring in some regional and nationally touring acts to enhance your listening pleasure. Well its that time of the year again for all the Christmas craziness. It reminds me of that really fast Christmas song that starts....just hear those sleigh bells jinglin ring ting tinglin too...giddy up giddy up lets go....and so forth. Well I dont know about you all, but I wouldn't mind something a little slower paced right now! If thats what you are really in the mood for, then come on out at any of our great music nights and take a well deserved breather....ahhhh-breathe in----breathe out....thats it. ;) OK!

DECEMBER 18th & 19th

Friday night the 18th welcomes back Cliff Stackonis. If you havent heard Cliff before you definitely dont want to miss his unique flavor of Country Blues. Cliff will be playing in the Living Room for a cover charge of $2 per person from 8pm on.

Saturday the 19th Its a FOLK FEST of our own. We are celebrating the wrap up of our musical year in review with a 3 artist fest. This is a show you will not want to miss. Starting with Frankie Alazar at 8pm, followed by Daniel Bower of the Manatawny Creek Ramblers and Ike Wilder of the Kansas City Wilders we will be bringing the house down Americana style! Frankie is a frequent guest of the hard bean and does a nice combination of singer songwriter stylings with guitar and rhythm set. Then local Bluegrass music star Daniel Bower and International Touring star Ike Wilder of the Kansas City Wilders will be teaming up to show you just what American roots music is all about! So come on out and celebrate a wild and crazy year with just a $5 cover charge per person, which includes a fresh brew, tea, or hot chocolate!

Got plans for New Years? If not then come on out and party with the Bean as we welcome in the New Year with our house rock and roll band.......THE DEAD HORSE BAND! These guys are sure to make your new years a blast with some good solid jammin. Come hear all your favorites with unique jam arrangements by the Dead Horse Band. If you like the Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, and any other classic jam, then you will love these guys. Our new years party is just $10 per person. THIS WEEKENDS MUSIC (November 28th)

This Saturday the 28th - For those who missed last weekends show with local legend Jimmy Z, you are in luck! He is coming back with his band "Acoustic Roadkill". This is a stand up act with Jimmy and friends, including several well known area musicians. He will even be joined by our very own Henry Frecon on sax. So come out at 8pm and get a seat for a trip that spans Americana folk, jazz, and more. Our candlelit atmosphere will make you will feel like you just were transported to a New Orleans jazz club. Cover charge is $4 and includes a free fresh brew!

DECEMBER 4th & 5th, celebrates the opening of the Holiday season in Boyertown!

Friday night the 4th welcomes the Boyertown Holiday Open House tour. For those who have never done this unique event, buy your tickets at several local establishments or go to the website www.boyertownpa.org. You will be transported back in time touring the local businesses and Victorian era homes via trolley as everyone rolls out the red carpet with Christmas goodies, music, and more. At the Hard Bean we will be featuring Porter Shimer on Piano playing and signing Christmas tunes all evening long. The Holiday tour starts for us at 5pm and goes until 10pm. We will also be visited by a special Boyertown treat, the Boyertown Brassmen! They will stop by around 8:30pm with a full horn brass section playing all the Christmas favorites!

Then on Saturday the 5th, its Chillin on Main, where Boyertown opens up main street for the kids! Santa comes to town along with ice carving, kids activities and more. At the Bean we will feature Miss Maggie from 2-3pm sing along with the kids. We will also have Carriage Rides from 1-3pm at $5 per person. Then from 8:30 to close our own Mike Holiday will be doing a Christmas Music Special right in the Living Room for a $3 cover!

Finally on December 7th we will be hosting Story Time from 10:30am-11:15am. Bring your kids and have a copy of coffee and watch them be amazed by our own local story teller.

Is everyone ready for the 57th Boyertown Halloween Parade, hosted by the Boyertown Jaycees?!?! For all us townies (and even you out of townies) this is a fantastic weekend to be in Boyertown. For those who are not in the know, this legendary regional parade is an annual highlight for Boyertown. Its a great time to get out and roam the town, see the creative floats, and tour local businesses. Frecon's Hard Bean will be offering an evening of live music with NO cover charge! Here's the line-up for Saturday Night:
7pm Dave Antonio will surround the cafe with the sounds of Jazz and International Music
9pm Green Apple Squared will take over the air waves with Alternative and Classic rock until closing.

Its The HALLOWBEAN Disco Party! So put on your platform shoes and your fattest pair of bell bottoms or groovy skirt, because a disco era costume is required to enter. We will feature a DJ, Costume Contests, Limbo Dance Contests, and More! The cover charge will be $3 at the door, but 50% of the door fee will go to CASH prizes. NEW! Monday Nov 16th (6:30PM - 7:30PM) Group singing lessons will be held at the Bean. The cost is $15.00. These are lessons for any teenager or adult who wants to hone their skills. Friends, we have officially made it back! Now that the storm has passed we have nothing but blue skies, and with that we moved back into our home. Many thanks to Duffy Moon our fantastic landlords, the utility companies, and all the employees, who dug in and got us back so quickly. Also special thanks goes out to FreconFarms (www.freconfarms.com) for giving us a home away from home! As a result many of Frecon's customers were happy to have Hard Bean coffee in the store, so starting in a few weeks we are going to keep them supplied with fresh brew pots and they are going to keep us supplied with fresh fruit so we can step up our smoothie game.
All activities are resumed so come on out and join in the many different events from yoga, to games, to music, and more.

I think July Fourth is a national holiday because it gets everybody back on track knowing the date halfway through the year. Christmas should not always be on the 25th because you are so close to the end of the year, who cares if none of us know what day of the month it is. Following her is a new duo- John and Kass playing till 11 and once again I'm not quite sure what they are going to do for the crowds but I'm sure the music will be great.

All day is a used book sale happening both on Saturday and Sunday with proceeds being donated to the Boyertown Library and we are looking for more book donations.

While Carriage Rides are scheduled from 7-10PM we have a night full of music started at 7PM with the Box Car Children. Another first time group so give them a chance.

These guys are amazing and I just heard them on their myspace recorded from a 93.7FM show which is pretty cool. Dear Friends-
Finally we are having consistently wonderful weather including the blessing of cooler temps and some pretty amazing thunderstorms reminding of the unstable beauty of summer. Most of us are just thankful for the sun and June's grumblings are almost behind us...soggy socks and memories. In that vein of joy, please keep reading and see what we have going on this week.

Mondays
Night Yoga classes that are usually offered for Monday evenings have been switched, for the summer, to Tuesday nights.

Like some of you smart ones guessed, there is Yoga on Tuesday night with Jillian Prout starting at 7PM with 2$ donations welcomed.

The morning Yoga class is in session with Diana O'Rourke so all you free moms and students should feel invited to participate in the class and start your day off well and bring the middle of your week back to balance.

And Sam is back from vaykay (vacation) and is ready to do class with everyone like usual on Wednesday nights with donations welcomed.

Okay, so we are in a Recession, half of June was cold and wet, the Phillies are not contending Champs and...your Blog has been a no-show for almost 2 months. The usual, but always new, Vinyasa flow yoga with Sam is happening again this Wednesday night! Great for beginners and advanced, Sam caters to all levels and is willing to provide help to you personally if you have any concerns with your practice. Another great aspect of this class is the music - personally, I find it relaxing but energizing, which may seem counter-intuitive but if you join us in the class this week, you may find some clarity. Mind, Body, and Soul, ya know? Don't forget your $2 donation!

Table Tops 9-11
If you haven't heard them yet, come visit Hard Bean, relax, and enjoy the talent that is the Table Tops. Two young, talented males, Carson Hershberger and Tyler Haddad, provide some acoustic covers with additions of different instruments, as well as original music. Better Late than Never?

Dear Friends-
It is Wednesday morning and I guess that the only excuse I have is that the heat roasted me a little bit more bitter than usual and henceforth the tardiness. Not sure about the correlation there but the important thing is that we care at the Bean to let you know what's up and happening throughout the week- especially this week with an amazing weekend of music on the docket- please read ahead!

Tuesday-
It is Wednesday so this is old news but every last Tuesday of the month there is a Support Group gathering hosted by our own Ruthanne O'lock and last night was quite a success with a bunch of folks dealing with disabilities spending part of their evening together- to relax and get to know and encorage one another. Keep this in mind for yourself and family and friends who need a good support system as they keep up the good fight.

Yoga is happening this morning and the word on the street is that the first class is now 8$ with regular class fees being 10$. Not bad so enjoy.
7-8:15PM
Vinyasa yoga is here for another night and tonight it will be a little cooler so when you go home you will be relaxed and not stressed by the summer heat. The class is offered for a 2$ donation so there is no reason not to try it out or continue your regular yoga routine.

SCRABBLE is always played on Thursday nights and newcomers are always welcome to join in the spelling fun. It is semi-competitive so leave the proper nouns at home.

I think it is Flag Day or Independence Day in Mexico and in Boyertown we are celebrating with some exceptional music. Starting off the night from 7-9 is Haley Sheeler from Reading who has played here once before and is quite good. You can check her out at www.myspace.com/haleysheeler and there you will find she is rockin and worth your audience.
As for the followup act, we are priveleged to have Wayne Johnston who virtually resides at www.myspace.com/waynejohnstonsongs but more importantly is here at the cafe on Friday night. This guy is heart and soul blues and has quite the history as a regional blues top notch musician. I confess I'm not quite sure what Wayne has accomplished but everyone I tell about his appearance is shocked and excited so please, please, please welcome him to Boyertown.

And Saturday night is no musical let down with a full slate for yall. Starting off the night is a local folk/country band, the Barn Swallows. And graciously taking the later slot for the evening is Troy Allen who has played here at the Bean a bunch of times. First off is the amazing Sarah Goldbloom who "hails?" from Ambler area and is a fine singer/songwriter and is sure to impress with her soulful voice and lyrics. Okay, you can't get much better for a night cap then these two talented musicians performing on Saturday night. Starting the evening is a newcomer, Josh Swavely to the Hard Bean scene. Be sure to find him online at www.myspace.com/joshswavely Josh joins us from Mohnton and apparently sings acoustically and is influenced by...Voltage spikes in my brain that cause uncontrolable thoughts...in his words. Give him a shot!
And following Josh from 9-11PM is the awesome Tim Harakal who has recently done amazingly well at West Chester Radio's Battle of the Bands. 1-3PM- The Table Tops are playing on the porch which should be a great time for all involved listening to great live music.
3-5PM- Miss Balloon Heart is back for the kids doing her entertaining balloon heart for kids of all ages.
7-10PM- Carriage Rides are happening thanks to Joe Trotter Carriage Company. Plenty of 20 minute slots are open so try it out.
7-9PM- Our own Mike Holliday is performing playing amazingly soulful original music
9-11PM- Rounding out the evening is Boyertown's most international musician- Dave Antonio- playing a wide array of instruments. Great Evening!

The Kid's Time Yoga class is canceled due to holiday traveling BUT the "Sip and Spa" event provided by Diana Stigura is still on for Saturday morning. This is such a relaxing event with all sorts of calming and rejuvanating treatments with Diana walking you through the whole thing. It's free and worth it!

We have a full night of music on tap with O Rabbit opening up the night from 7-9. This band provides a lot of funk and was well recieved last time they played at the bean. Unfortunately, their myspace has been changed so I can't lead you to their rabbit trail on the web.
Following them is Dave Antonio with his international flare- a whole arsenal of off the beaten track instruments from around the world and home town humor creating a fun atmosphere for all. You can't go wrong.

The cutout coloring sheets are in the back of the cafe with a bunch of crayons and each cutout represents thousands of displaced persons in Columbia. The sheets will be collected and sent to Columbian officials to highlight international concern for the displaced victims. Thanks for your help.

Dear Friends-
It was a crazy evening yesterday with hail and tornado action and rain and wind and tieing it all together was an amazing quality of turbulent light and luminous, dynamic clouds. Quite beautiful to just enjoy it for what it was. Back to the cafe, it is Monday and whether you are ready or not, the sun is shining, the coffee's brewed and our 9-5's have just started. We have a lot going on this week and so much to look forward to as April unwinds and flourishes. First off...Our Support Group is kicking off its existence on Tuesday night with the first informal get-together. Our own, Ruthanne Olock is rounding up support and awareness about this opportunity for folks with disabilities and illnesses to come out and enjoy honest friendship and discussion and concern. These events will happen every last Tuesday of the month and will offer guest speakers and awareness topics as well as downtime for convo and relaxation.
Also, Imra is in the house offering CHESS tutoring so feel free to stop in and play a game or two.

BJ Moesher is a children's book author and is at the cafe promoting her new book, "Monty the Traveling Cat". There will be a book reading and signing so keep your kids around for this event.
SCRABBLE is also happening on Thursday night at 7PM. Mr. Bean won last week in a friendly Scrabble affair so come out to enjoy the word forming experience.

March Madness- the real kind!

Dear Neighbors-
Something about March just doesn't flow right. Maybe its the ides or the hidden pots of gold over the imaginary rainbow or searching over acres of grass for a four leave clover. I'm not Irish and I wish I was Italian because Italians always marry the Irish and have similiar looking national flags so they share Guiness and Peroni and stories of potato pasta parmagiana. I'm rambling and what's important is that this blog needs to make sense because now we have 6 followers and this is a big week here at the Bean. Here goes...

Last month we had our very own State rep, David Kessler, with us discussing his current local endeavors and issues close to heart and home. Please, please, please feel welcomed and urged to attend so that we can game plan and stimulate a healthy political/cultural atmosphere close to home.

Kid's Time Yoga is back at the Bean for another go. A bunch of parents brought excited kids out for a yoga/dance/singalong activity time provided by Renee Sherkne. We are trying it again and will provide these classes for children ages 5-11 for 6$ per class which is quite a steal. So, feel invited to bring in your kids and enjoy a drink.

Saturday night is also all about the music. First off is Mike Matz who is a newcomer to our house and I'm not too familiar with his music so we will all be up for a surprise. He's on for a quick one hour set and I'm sure he will stick around for...
Rocket 88 is rocking the night away to a sure full house and hopefully some dancing will happen along with hand clapping and heel clicking. These young guys from Oaks will blow you away with their refined talent and fun style. They do old rock with originals that sound like their 40 years golden. Front Porch Church is still hanging out inside and the conversation has been riveting and all over the place. We are a diverse, spiritual group that is seeking a deeper relationship with God and intimate friendships with each other and the community. Anyone is welcome and you are asked to bring an open heart and respect for all those willing to share their views and experiences.

Just a quick shout out that next week we are kicking off the Support Group which will be the last Tuesday of every month. These events are especially for friends with disabilities and illnesses and life long battles. The idea is to come together and share your joys and struggles with others who know what it means to struggle and to perserveer. We are committing to this group and hope you will consider coming out and sharing this opportunity with your friends and family who might benefit from it.

Most folks are seeing green this week and hopefully that means more than green felt hats and artifically colored beer and cupcakes. There is so much out there that is truely green- the grass is greening up and money is green- sort of- and green eyes are to be adored- Yes, Coldplay knows what's up. Enough musing, because we're not really doing too much to celebrate St. Patties day except for our Irish Buttercream coffee offerings. We do have an exciting, busy week on tap so here goes.

Its pretty ragged outside. No doubt the snow is beautiful but I think it's now a lopsided appreciation or disgust for this current event with the public school children not minding and the commuting adults grumbling all the way to work. I guess you gotta say, "It's all good, baby" and do your thing so if a cup of coffee can help to that regards- stop on in.

Miss Balloon Heart is joining us this Thursday morning to entertain your kids with fun balloon creations. This is perfect for kids of all ages and for moms to enjoy some convo and coffee.

We got a full night of music happening this evening with two of our bands performing two hour sets. First off is Cliff Stackonis doing his country blues routine. Cliff plays here once a month and also helps with our growing Open-Mic event so enjoy his tunage.
Doing the night cap are the Table Tops who are a great duo-acoustic act featuring a wide range of cover material and some amazing original songs. Tyler and Carson have been MIA for a month so please welcome them back.

Saturday, Mar. 7th, 7PM
Troy Rauenzahn is back with us doing great acoustic covers of 90's rock and then some. We will be booking some music for the rest of the evening but enjoy Troy's tunes at the beginning of the night and Cappi Hour should get the ball rolling.

Sunday, Mar. 8th, 7:30PM
Front Porch Church is on for the night with a discussion about the Sabbath and how folks view the "day of rest" and observe/enjoy it. We meet weekly for coffee and convo and invite anyone to join us- we promise to appreciate and understand point of views and experiences and are excited to be a part of the Boyertown community.

A quick head's up about our first Support Group meeting to be held on Tuesday, March 28th at 7PM. This is a get-together for neighbors with disabilities and health concerns and their family and friends and the format will develop as the group grows with down time, discussion and guest speakers/focuses in the mix.

I was out of intriguing intro titles so I just went with the absurd- which is good for the kids!
Anyway, WOW! What a weekend we did have with an amazing Art gallery in house and fabulous music to boot. Friday and Saturday night were both hoppin' and I would like to personally thank the participating artists and musicians who shared the time and talent with the Boyertown community and fortunately got some recipocrative love through sales and tips. Sam C instructs a larger evening Vinyasa style Yoga that is both serious and fun and equally rewarding for Newbies and regulars. This is a "donation please" class and consider staying before or after for a drink or snack.

Local State Representative, David Kessler, is cafe bound to kick off our "Political Perspectives" events that hopefully with be a regular (monthly) interaction between the community and local and state political leaders. This will be more of a presentation type evening but hopefully it will also include open-forum discussion about how to best serve our community.

Friday, Feb. 27th, 7-11PM
Not only does Cappi Hour happen from 5-7PM, we have AMAZING music happening with 61South coming to little ol' Boyertown from upstate PA. This is a well known classic blues band that will not dissappoint you so please, please tell friends to show up at 7 to hear them rock the house. From 9-11 Micky B is back with us doing his solo guitar and harmonica act and he'll be feeling the blues so it should be heart felt melodies.

Another two fold night includes our own Mike Holliday playing from 6-8. Besides being a great local musician, Mike is a friend of the cafe facilitating our developing Open-Mic night and graciously making personal invites to new and talented musicians to play at the Bean.
Following Mike, is Haley Sheeler, www.myspace.com/haleysheeler, who has a country rock thing going on up in the Reading area. This is her first time so please welcome her to Boyertown.

YOGA Time for Kids is at the Bean with their second month of Free yoga classes for children aged 5-11. This is a great time for kids with yoga, music, dance, singing and all around fun given per gratis. This is an opportunity to be introduced to the ongoing Kids Yoga classes offered at serveral local facilities but enjoy this afternoon at the cafe as your kids enjoy themselves.

Front Porch Church is kicking off March featuring Rob Bellavision and the film "Rain" which looks at suffering and trial as a part of the story and journey of faith and love. Dear Neighbor's-

So, Valentine's Day has come and gone and Trotter the Horse lost his shoe so the carriage rides did not happen. We hope that all of you had a romantic weekend and took advantage of your loved ones full attention. We also trust that your are not loved out into apathy so remind your lover and family and friends that today, Monday, February 16th, 2009, "I love you!"

There is a bunch of goodness happening this week that needs its due attention to details. Some of our music for this weekend is still in the works so please bear with us and if you have a good voice and like to entertain, consider signing up for a gig here at the cafe. Here goes it...

Our AM Yoga class is meeting up again after last weeks introductory class. Donna O'Rourke is instructing this new class and is looking for folks with daytime freetime to jump in as a drop-in for 10$ or sign up for a full 6week session for 55$ Come out this week to try it out.

Evening Yoga class is still going strong with weekly participation well over 20 people. Sam is continually changing up the dynamics of the class integrating different aspects of Vinyasa style yoga so come to experiment and work on your practice. We are asking for a 2$ donation!

Cafe Perspectives is highlighting the campaigns of 2 organizations this night with brief presentations followed by "mingle, get to know you time" afterwards. The two groups are One Village Coffee (http://www.onevillagecoffee.com/) and Pedal Power which is a part of the Urban Promise non-profit operating out of Camden, NJ(http://www.urbanpromiseusa.org/). Both orgs are dynamicly working in inner-city and international environments to benefit children and communities suffering from poverty and inability to grow. Please consider joining us for this evening to learn and to support these excellent missions.

ART, ART, ART! Cafe Gallery is in house again for February with the opening reception happening from 6-8PM. Although the art is displayed and available for sale all weekend, Friday night is a festive time to mingle with other lovers of art and meet the artists themselves. Featured artists include art Lesta Bertoia, John Walsh, Brian Artim and various Clay on Main artists as well as our "Host Artists"- Arline Christ and Denise Bennett. Please come and enjoy!

First off we are going to try to the Carriage Rides again for this Saturday night. Trotter did loose a shoe which nixxed the rides for Valentine's night. Joe managed to get to Foot Locker yesterday so Trotter the horse is in shape to get the carriage riding again this weekend. Please consider reserving seats at the cafe for 5$ a person down-payment and tickets overall are 10$ for adults and 5$ for kids for the 20 minute ride.

From 7-9 and then some a really dynamic musical duo is performing at the Bean for the first time. Christine and Chad are in house with amazing guitar and vocals strung together beautifully. These musicians met at another local coffee shop and are developing their own musical identity and we are excited to have them with us at the Bean.

Front Porch Church is spending the evening with the Boyertown Community a Studio B as all of us dive into the realm of collective Story. The night is being facilitated by a Kutztown english student who is researching the marriage of story and community. Please consider joining us for the evening and bring a story to tell.

Please keep in mind our Town Hall meeting happening next Thursday with our local Representative, David Kessler joining us. Also, we are developing a support group for our family and friends with disabilities and sickness so we will shoot info as it comes.

Fifty Degree February

Dear Friends-
Mr. GroundHog animal is probably shivering in his hole-home after scurrying back rather quickly last week- he is missing out on this beautiful weather but he's probably right about the longevity of this winter. But we'll take what we get and enjoy these next couple of days.
A special thanks to all of you who came out on Friday and Saturday night to enjoy Cappi Hour and the amazing music. We had a record crowd on Saturday night for Leon & Scott and Rocket 88 and it was such a pleasure to be on staff serving the masses and enjoying the melodies. We have a hoppin' week coming so please sift through the following details and flavors.

We have our introductory morning Yoga class happening this Wednesday with certified instructor, Donna O'Rourke. The class will resume the following week and will be centered on six-week sessions costing 55$ or 10$ drop-in fee for each class. Check it out.

This is an exciting evening for us with our monthly Open-Mic Poetry event. This month's open-mic is a tribute to the Reading author, John Updike. In honor of John Updike’s recent passing, we encourage people to read a short (about five minutes) passage that highlights Updike’s extraordinary description of ordinary things. A native of Reading, Pennsylvania, John Updike’s American Realism is often rooted in Berks County settings. Partipants are encouraged from all of the literary genre's and work unrelated to Updike can be read. Saturday, Feb. 14, 6-11PM
And to melodize the horse-hoof harmony we have two sets of performers on Saturday evening. From 6-8, Mickey B is back with us featuring his home-girl Becky. From Mickey you can expect a solid and fun acoustic act with guitar and harmonica in tune. I don't know what Becky brings to the table but be surprised. Come ready to shout "Garbage!!!" when the time is right.
From 8-11 Mr. Dave Antonio is taking the stage with his varied instruments and language array. Dave is always willing to entertain and showcase his talent playing the guitar, flut, didgeridoo, sitar and maybe a few other selections.

It is so good to be here in this community. We are delighted to see our cafe being filled with first-time and returning customers who love the coffee, enjoy the friendly service and expect to hear excellent music. We promise to keep up reinventing what we have to offer in terms of products and entertainment so please keep coming and remember that we definately make mistakes and need to know if something is not up to snuff- do it with a smile and we will bend over backwards to make it right. Wednesday, Feb. 4th, 7-8:15PM
Yoga. This is a cafe standard these days with Sam taking the lead and a big class following suit. We start promptly so please come at least 5 min before hand. We are requesting a 2$ donation that includes a 50 cent coupon to be used before or after class please and thankyou. Additionally, Susie Arbonne will continue to be with us offering detox foot soaks which really enhance the exercise experience. Come out and give it a try

Also, a daytime Yoga class is starting next Wednesday starting at 9:30AM to 10:45 so keep that in mind. It will be based around a 6 week session which cost 55$ and 10$drop ins are welcome. Next week will be the FREE introductory lesson so come just to try it out.

This junior high band from Oaks is back with us after their rocking January show. www.myspace.com/r88band will give you an idea of what you will hear but it won't prepare you for the quality of music and the crowd response generating- clapping and sing along and dancing to the very best Beattles, Dead and Almond Brothers covers and originals that surely belong to the 60s and 70s. Sparkle in the Sun

So what's with the funky weather lately? Okay okay.. we've all been thinking that very thing this entire season but at least before we had that single oddly warm day, there was snow on the ground for a good few days. Of course the only bad thing about snow is the salty roads.. so hopefully everyone has been able to get their car out for a car wash and now your rides are sparkling beautifully in the sun.

What's going on this week? It's jam-packed and the cafe is definitely waiting for you to come get a cup of coffee or tea, brownie or cookie, sandwich or yummy dessert, and chill out for a while..

It's the Chinese New Year! ..also known as the "Year of the Ox", or the Lunar New Year. Okay, it doesn't really involve us Americans.. but why not come have a cup of coffee in their honor? Let's be happy for them!

A Whitehall native and Kutztown U. student, Tim Harakal got in touch with us this weekend and is making his acoustic debut on Friday night. He has good stuff to offer which can be found at www.myspace.com/timisalive Tim's talent has been recognized both in the Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia regions and is well deserved as his music has a lot of well-versed energy.
Continuing at 8, an awesome band that call themselves Taking Motion will surely be.. taking motion. From what I can tell, they are a warm and loving bunch that play delicately acoustic and indie-type music and if you don't at least stop by to give these guys a good ear's listen.. you'll be missing out. That's a threat! No but really these guys are going to fill the cafe with warmth and good feeling, no doubt. Make sure you check out their very own website- takingmotion.com, which has links to their last.fm, myspace, purevolume, and even youtube. Also on their website, you can download (for free!) a copy of their new release titled, "Simple". Score!

Dr. Glenn Waldt will be paying his second visit for the week and he will be here 12-1PM. If you couldn't make it or just missed him the first time, this is your chance!
Once darkness has fallen, rather has been fallen for a few hours.. come out for some live music that isn't worth missing. Starting at 7 and going strong until 9, Cliff Stacropis/Stackonis will bring the cafe to life with his bluesy/country songs about good love and bad credit.
Then, from 9-11PM, The Tabletops will bring tenderness, seriousness and beaming compassion to the floor. This definitely isn't the first time we're hearing these two guys strum fiercely and sing lovingly.. and we love them so much that we want them to fill the Hard Bean with their tunes like it's their job. Today we're holding a very special "Yoga Time for Kids".. so calling all parents, older brother or sister, babysitter, grandparents... if you have some young ones that you feel have a calm soul and a little patience, or even need some calming down and "centering".. bring them to the Hard Bean. It's just an hour long, and you can hang out and grab some coffee while kid yoga takes place.

Boo Hoo Eaglets

Friends-
Face it, we lost again this year...feel short...didn't reach the promised land where we probably would have lost anyway but cheer up. I was referencing the Eagles loss yesterday and I'm not much of a fan so I will get right into the blogging.
As stated in the email, we had an amazing weekend that we are still sort of recovering from. We learned a lot and with the amazing help and support of all the community members and groups involved, we pulled it off giving us confidence for the coming months.
Before I forget, openings for February and March Cafe Gallery openings are still available so please contact luke.kasitz@gmail.com to inquire or sign up.
Also, this blog is definately a "community" outreach of the cafe that 1) gets out pertinent information to our customers BUT 2) is a "neigborly voice" that communicates our heart, our vision and our commitment to Boyertown. In that there is a lot of personality and maybe unneccessary rhetoric so please wade through it all if you just want the facts. With that said, here's what's on tap.

Lot's of good/great music happening this Friday. The up and coming star, Valerie Nicole is joining us for another show after her exciting CD release party weeks ago. She can be found on Yourspace at www.myspace.com/valerienicole7 and you will probably here a solid mix of soulful covers and fun originals- expect singer/songwriter keyboard and guitar action from Val.
Rounding out the night are the Table Tops who also have a myspace which I need to find. They should have a working PA this time so leave your hearing aids at home. These guys are super fun and do more 90's covers like Weezer but also have very good originals. You won't be dissappointed by one of the cafe's "house bands."

If you were not satisfied on Friday night, you can't go wrong on Saturday as we have another 5 hours of musica on tap. Starting things off from 6-8 is Mike Holliday who conducts our Open Mic and plays a soothing collection of originals that really communicate his heart and his love for music.
From 8-11 we have another collaboration of "house bands." Sort of playing the opening act, Mickey Bieberfeld is in town on break from his roaming the country to play his fun guitar and harmonica routine. "Garbage" is a crowd favorite so remember to ask for it.
And then we got CD and Friends for the rest of the night. What can I say? These guys jam and have so much fun doing it and bring so many friends- it's just a good night. You can expect some Tom Petty and Jack Johnson and Ben Harper and the Dead and other old-school jams. Come early to get a seat because they pack the house.

This Sunday we have Front Porch Church at 7:30PM so keep us in mind to share a cup and a convo. We recently purchased a projector thanks to some amazing donations so we will be offering some afternoon movies soon.

Lastly, we have really improved our food selection so please keep us in mind for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Daily we have a mix of salads, cold and hot sandwhiches and paninis. Still working on the pastries so bare with us.
